About 21:CB

21st Century Pinups was founded in 2007 and began publishing in January 2008. A publication created to celebrate beauty, creativity and talent – it focussed on the personalities within the burlesque, ‘pin-up’ and vintage/retro communities.

In 2009, due to increasing demand, 21CP converted to a full-time online magazine – moving from single flip-book issues to a constant stream of burlesque interviews, news and features.

Now, in 2010, 21st Century Pinups has become 21st Century Burlesque – with a new look and a range of new features. More in-depth interviews, more fashion, more lifestyle articles, guides and special features; as well as new contributors and opportunities to be involved.

A Fan Workshop: One of our series of tutorials with Catherine D’Lish, in London, 2009…

We are delighted to receive ongoing support and contributions from many of the most knowledgeable, charismatic and celebrated individuals in burlesque, and we are always thrilled to hear from our readers – performers, producers, enthusiasts, photographers, models, costumiers, academics, designers, retailers, and everyone in between, from every corner of the globe…

“With a new site comes a renewed focus. I hope that our content and the additional opportunities we provide can help and encourage the burlesque communities around the world to be one united international community; learning from each other and celebrating each other.

We continue to advocate high standards and hard work – all performance deserves long-term investment and planning, thorough research, discipline and dedication.

In addition, we want to encourage further debate and constructive criticism – if we don’t have dialogue with each other and feel able to discuss our work and ideas, we cannot progress and improve, or work together as a community.

For many, ‘burlesque’ is a lifestyle, a living, a vocation – and in our book, if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing to the best of our ability.

Here’s to you – our readers and friends – you make Burlesque such an inspiring, entertaining and beautiful world to wake up to every day…”
